Manufacturing industry establishments abstracted 2.3 billion m3 of water
According to the results of Manufacturing Industry Water, Wastewater and Waste Statistics Survey, establishments abstracted 2.3 billion m3
of water in 2016. Out of this amount, 67.3% was abstracted from sea, 17.7% from spring and well, 4.7% from organized industrial zone water supply network, 4.3% from dam, 2.1% from river, 1.7% from municipal water supply network and 2.2% from other water resources. 73.2% of the abstracted water was used for cooling purposes.

Manufacturing industry establishments discharged 1.9 billion m3
of wastewater in 2016. 79.3% of discharged wastewater was cooling water. Out of total discharged wastewater, 79.9% was discharged to sea, 7.1% to river, 6.9% to organized industrial zone sewerage, 3.1% to municipal sewerage and 3% to other receiving bodies.
Excluding cooling water, 56% of discharged wastewater was treated
Out of 1.5 billion m3
of cooling water, 31 million m3
was treated, whereas out of 393 million m3
of wastewater which was not cooling water, 56% was treated.
16.3 million tonnes of waste was generated by manufacturing industry establishments
In 2016, 16.3 million tonnes of total waste, of which 1.2 million tonnes was hazardous, was generated by manufacturing industry establishments. Out of total waste, 11.9% was recovered within the facility, 55.1% was sold or sent to licensed waste treatment facilities, 14.2% was landfilled, 3.7% was sent to dumping sites, 11.4% was stored within the establishment, 2.9% was co-incinerated or incinerated and 0.8% was disposed of by other methods.
In 2016, manufacture of basic metal and chemical industries constitutes 77.6% of total abstracted water, 81.6% of total discharged wastewater and 65.9% of total waste generated.
Within the scope of Manufacturing Industry Water, Wastewater and Waste Statistics survey all manufacturing industry establishments’ local units having 50 or more employees are covered.
