Total environmental protection expenditure was 34.4 billion TL in 2017. Out of 5.9 billion TL of environmental protection investment expenditure, 62% was realized by financial and non-financial corporations and 38% was realized by general government. The "Environmental Protection Expenditure Accounts" guide, which was published by Eurostat and used for the calculation of environmental protection expenditure statistics, was updated in 2017. The method of data collection and reporting has been improved by taking into account updated guide and additional data requirements.
Environmental protection expenditure statistics were produced by collecting data from the administrative records of Revenue Administration, national accounts and structural business statistics that most of these statistics were previously produced by surveys for 2013-2017.
In addition to these, for the statistics related to environmental protection expenditure which cannot be produced from administrative records; a questionnaire was applied to the enterprises that have 50 or more employees in "mining and quarrying", 150 or more employees in "manufacturing" and "construction" sector, 10 or more employees in "electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply" sector and 250 or more employees in other sectors.
