Internet usage of individuals was 75.3%
Internet usage of individuals aged 16-74 was 75.3% in 2019. This proportion was 72.9% in 2018.
While the proportion of male aged 16-74 using Internet were 81.8%, this proportion was 68.9% for female.
Households internet access rate at home reached 88.3%
According to the results of ICT usage survey in households and by individuals carried out in April 2019, 88.3% of households had access to the Internet at home. This proportion was 83.8% for the same period in 2018.
Main Indicators, 2009-2019
87.9% of households had broadband Internet connection
87.9% of households had broadband Internet connection in 2019. In terms of broadband connection types, while 49.1% of households used fixed broadband connection (ADSL, cable, optic fibre, etc.), 86.9% of households used mobile broadband connection to access the Internet. 82.5% of households had broadband Internet connection in previous year.
One out of two people used e-government services
During the twelve months (April 2018-March 2019), 51.2% of Internet users among the individuals aged 16-74 interacted with public authorities over the Internet for private purposes. This proportion was 45.6% for the same period of previous year. Obtaining information from public authorities' web sites was in the first rank with 45.8% among the purposes of use.
The proportion of shopping over the Internet was 34.1%
During the twelve months (April 2018-March 2019), 34.1% of Internet users among the individuals aged 16-74 bought goods or services over the Internet for private purposes. This proportion was observed 29.3% for the same period of previous year.
The proportion of shopping over the Internet was 38.3% for males and 29.9% for females. These proportions were 33.6% and 25% for the same period of previous year respectively.
Clothes and sports were the first rank for e-shoppers by 67.2%
67.2% of e-shoppers bought clothes and sports goods. This product type was followed by travel arrangements (transport tickets, car hire, etc.) with 31.7%, food or groceries include necessities of daily use with 27.4%, household goods (e.g. furniture, toys, etc; excluding consumer electronics) with 26.9%, electronic equipment (incl. cameras) with 20.3% and books, magazines, newspapers (including e-book) with 20.2%.
It was observed that clothing and sporting goods with 57.2%, other travel arrangements with 37.7% and electronic equipment with 30.2% were the most frequently purchased items from the Internet by male. Clothing and sporting goods with 79.6%, food or groceries include necessities of daily use with 29.5% and other travel-related activities with 24.2% were mostly purchased products from the Internet by female shoppers.
